Sam Cartman

Since completing his Fine Art degree at Cumbria College of Art and Design, Sam Cartman spent four years employed in the family business in Shropshire before returning to painting and moving to Glasgow. He has recently exhibited in both Scotland and England.
Sam’s ideas for work are shaped by the experience of being in a certain place at a certain time and the memory of this.
This serves as a basis for his involvement with the paint and from then on, he allows his interaction with the paint take over. The process allows him to show in painting, something of the place he is in or has been in, whether it’s the landscape of Shropshire, Cumbria or more recently, the urban environment of Glasgow and the landscapes of the West Coast.
